Paid parental leave is essential to support the wellbeing of our communities globally. However not every country has established national standards to promote family economic, social and psychological health. Without federal government standards, the social responsibility rests with each individual organization.
According to the International Labour Organization, we’re seeing an unprecedented spike in women juggling careers and also having families. In fact, over the next 10 years, 80% of all women in industrialized countries and 70% globally will be working outside the home during their child-bearing years.
Without access to a pre-determined paid maternity leave period, new mothers face difficult decisions involving balancing economic impacts of taking unpaid leave with ensuring physical/emotional recovery, while also caring for newborn children. At Easy Skill, we don’t believe new families need this added pressure.
Papua New Guinea is one of the countries currently without national parental leave. And Easy Skill is eager to make a difference and level the playing field. We recognize the importance of supporting all of our employees working across the globe to balance their personal and professional aspirations.
Easy Skill PNG is excited to shape a future with better provisions for our team. As a company committed to creating opportunities for consultants, clients and our team, this move just makes sense. And we have our first PNG team member Victoria who is thrilled to benefit from these changes as she expects a child.
Victoria and her family are particularly excited for her to be the first PNG staff member to take advantage of the new program.
Her daughter Carmen is delighted to spend more time bonding with the newest addition.
While we know we’re just one organization, we also know that change needs to start somewhere and it’s usually an inside job. So we’re proud to take a stand for what we believe in and to make a positive difference in the lives of our incredibly passionate team members. Thank you for everything you do!
