In a recent interview, we had the pleasure of sitting down with Helen, currently working as Joint Ventures Officer for a Papua LNG Operator, to gain insights into her dynamic role. She gives us some details about her consultant life at Easy Skill.

Could you elaborate on your role?

Helen: Absolutely. My primary responsibility is to support the Assets or Joint Venture Manager in their role, in ensuring the efficient coordination and management for the Project. This includes various tenements we own, such as the Papua LNG project, where we're currently in the process of applying for licenses. Additionally, I assist with the regulatory compliance required, such as submitting reports, and managing relationships with our partners and the Regulators, specifically the Department of Petroleum and Energy.

My focus is mainly on the Papua LNG project. However, the Papua LNG Operator I am working with has other assets and tenements that require regular communication for license upkeep.

What aspect of your job do you find most intriguing?

Helen: The most fascinating part of my role is the exposure and experience in the commercial aspect as it builds on my knowledge from  my background as a corporate commercial lawyer. Still, I felt a lack in understanding the commercial intricacies—how to think strategically, negotiate effectively, and administer joint venture agreements. This role has given me the exposure to witness negotiations, partner interactions, and the broad scope of administering such agreements. I truly appreciate the connections I've built, especially within the oil and gas industry.

What are the primary challenges you're facing in your current role?

Helen: The main challenge lies in working with people and aligning on various aspects. While you can have plans and initiatives, without human effort and interaction, progress can be stagnant. Therefore, navigating through these interpersonal dynamics is a significant challenge.

Can you describe your experience as a consultant?

Helen: I've had a wonderful experience working with Easy Skill. The team is incredibly helpful—I can send a quick message, make a call, and someone is always ready to respond to my queries. Most of my issues are resolved within a matter of days. Working as a consultant for Easy Skill, I feel that my contributions matter, and my concerns are promptly addressed. It's a reassuring and positive work environment.

Any advice for someone aspiring to be a consultant?

Helen: Understanding your goals and what aligns with your circumstances is crucial. In my case, my relationship with Easy Skill is built on trust. I communicate effectively about my expectations, and I appreciate that Easy Skill reciprocates by keeping me informed about my role and development as a consultant. It's been an interesting journey so far, and the opportunities within a big company and significant projects are vast. I've thoroughly enjoyed my time working on the Papua LNG project and as a consultant for Easy Skill.

Thank you,Helen, for providing such valuable insights!
