The best staff bring more than just the necessary experience and industry expertise. They also excel at the soft skills. The ability to adapt quickly in a new working environment, build relationships and establish trust from a single conversation are all essential to success. Some days our human nature gets the best of us and our emotional state influences our behaviors', whether we want it or not. Learning how to manage this effectively will help us to interact better with the people around us.
Relationships matter and so does how you make people feel.
Whatever industry you’re working in, you will always gravitate towards people with the right energy. Time is our most precious resource and we get to spend it wisely. At work that means dedicating your energy to building long-term connections with people that leave a lasting impression. It’s not to say that projects don’t matter, but people will always make or break your level of satisfaction at work.
When it comes to competing as a company in a saturated industry, it’s critical to find ways to be different. Being an expert with relevant knowledge is key, as is fostering the human connection.
“The talent sourcing industry is a crowded market. The companies who stand out from the rest are the ones who truly care and are experts at relationship building,” shared Shane Byrne, HR Manager at PNG Forest Product (PNGFP).
Attracting candidates in remote areas.
Shane started working with Easy Skill PNG for a unique project – he was looking for an experienced Training Manager in Bulolo in Morobe Province, PNG. “The Easy Skill recruitment team was incredibly helpful to share their knowledge. They advised me about the market challenges and proposed ideal solutions.” Since working in a remote area is not the right opportunity for everyone, it’s important to focus on the more than just expertise, but also on a candidate’s ability to fit into this particular geographic setting.
Being responsive and respectful.
The COVID-19 situation has disrupted business globally and caused many countries to close their borders. Naturally it also brings limitations and extensions to visas and work permits in certain areas. Easy Skill’s Visa Specialist, Sidney Junior, showed up to the conversation enthusiastic to share his expert market knowledge and how he could anticipate the impacts of the situation for PNGFP.
Shane was immediately impressed with his professionalism, expertise and genuine willingness to be of service. Shane shared with us candidly, “Sidney is one of the most pleasant, well-spoken and non-intrusive young professionals I have had the privilege of working with in a long time. He makes doing business better and I look forward to the next time we can work together.”
People are priceless.
