Living the dream of expatriation is something many of us would love to taste at some point in our lives. Whether it be landing an ambitious career move, hungry to try new things or even finding yourself (and maybe your family too), expatriation is a radical change. It’s a new way of life. And that comes with complexities we know well. We know them so well, that we’re confident our Easy Skill team can relieve relocation pains for our expats to find happiness faster with their new lives.

Meet one of our long-term expats from Malaysia, Jaynie. She has been living and working in New Caledonia for about 10 years now. When she first arrived in  2010, the major nickel production site in the Northern Province was at an early stage of construction. The company was growing rapidly and many people from diverse cultural backgrounds joined the team.

Seasoned within multicultural workplaces, Jaynie immediately appreciated the strong team spirit inside. “In Koné, my English-speaking colleagues became friends,” Jaynie explained. It was a great environment to start her new beginnings in New Caledonia.

Career advancement is important to most people and Jaynie is no exception. Back in Malaysia, Jaynie first started out as a Drafter in Heavy Lifting and Transportation. She became a Logistics Coordinator to pursue a career in Logistics. Later on she became involved in Contract and Project Management after working some years in New Caledonia.

At the peak of her career in 2018, Jaynie found our Easy Skill team and we were delighted. Her past experiences shaped the perfect set of skills to help her land her current role as a Procurement Specialist. Her role includes negotiating with suppliers in China, Malaysia and elsewhere, project management on major fabrication orders. Speaking Chinese was an incredibly valuable skill she brought to her team. “My main strengths are my meticulousness, persistency and good organization skills! That’s how I get the jobs done,” Jaynie shared.

When we asked her what her favourite Easy Skill experience was, she wasted no time in sharing, “It was the people.” Apart from the ongoing support Easy Skill offers consultants to ensure their satisfaction, the regular consultant dinners are what she values the most. “It’s an amazing opportunity for the consultants to connect with each other and to build face-to-face relationships with our Easy Skill Business Managers”.

After spending 10 fulfilling years in New Caledonia, Jaynie now plans to move to Brisbane to join her partner and is excited about the future. She is ready to take the next step from procurement towards project management where she can exercise her eye for details and organizationl mastery. Our Brisbane-based Easy Skill team is proud to assist her in finding her next career move.
