Here we grow again! The Easy Skill team is happy to welcome our newest crew member Melinda Magnin as a business manager in Nouméa. Armed with an impressive international technical background, she will be paving the way to enter new sectors. As we like to say, she is the perfect match - the right skills in the right place for the right team. And the timing is impeccable. Let’s learn more about what makes her tick.
Born and raised under the Caledonian sun, Mélinda has an adventurous soul and enjoys experiencing new cultures. After studying abroad in France, she first discovered how a sudden change in environment encourages an open mind. And since then she's really embraced this mindset. “Studying or working in New Zealand, Brisbane, and Spain, Shanghai and Philadelphia have deepened my cultural awareness,” she says. Accumulating global business accumen and understanding the intricacies of working and living within various cultures is a solid formula to bringing an insightful approach to building high performing teams for our clients.
Every addition to the team is an opportunity to bring a complementary skillset. As a trained agronomic engineer, Mélinda has explored several industries such as health, oil and gas, food and beverage, jewellery, and renewable energies. She brings well-rounded experience having contributed to several start-up businesses. “Highly motivated and adaptable, my entrepreneurial spirit helps me connect with customers deeply to bring the most value and I’m confident they will help me to align people and projects for Easy Skill’s heavy industry clients,” she states. After all, helping clients to shape a better future starts with understanding their world and their challenges in order to deliver the most effective solutions.
The border closures that began in March 2020 have changed the rules for talent acquisition. Although companies always prioritise local talent first, due to the limited island population there’s always been a steady flow of professionals arriving and departing. With many open vacancies and tighter work permit restrictions, local availability is becoming a major selection criteria and training options are becoming more popular. However, some specific skills remain irreplaceable and global experts can still follow a strict entry process to work in New Caledonia.
Energy transition is a hot topic that Mélinda takes to heart. New Caledonia has ambitious goals to become energy self-sufficient in the next decade (for domestic use). With the support of the government to encourage the development of necessary infrastructure, we are eagerly anticipating the surge of renewable energy projects to advance the shift towards a sustainable future. With a long history in the energy industries, Easy Skill will support major projects by sourcing specialised and technical experts to build the best teams.
